Dr. Jeffrey M. Albert has recently received, as Principal Investigator, an R01 grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Albert will receive a total of approximately $1,600,000 over four years for this multidisciplinary team project, entitled “Continuous Time Causal Mediation Models for Social Behavior in Health”. This project will develop new statistical methods for longitudinal causal mediation analysis that will better account for the dynamic interplay among factors in health processes, and allow improved prediction of the effects of new interventions. Neighborhood and inter-individual effects will also be incorporated, allowing for an explanation of emergent effects of social behavior. The new methods will be applied to a longitudinal cohort study of biological and psychosocial factors in early childhood dental caries, and a randomized study of behavioral interventions to improve dental care usage.
